Music Influenced by Ray Bradbury
- Songs For a Sideshow of the Mind: Ray Bradbury's Dark Carnival (1970) -- LP. Bob Jacobs turns eight Ray Bradbury stories into narrative songs. Ray Bradbury wrote the liner notes.
- Madrigals for the Space Age (1972) by Lalo Schifrin -- for mixed chorus and narrator with piano accompaniment. Text by Ray Bradbury.
- Leviathan 99 -- Opera. Libretto written by Ray Bradbury and based loosely on Moby Dick.
- Tres Nocturnos a Ray Bradbury (1980) by Mario Kuri-Aldana -- for clarinet and piano.
- Fahrenheit 451 (198*) -- Rock Opera. Written by John Butcher, a member of UK House of Commons. I don't know if this has been recorded.
- Cult of Ray (199*) -- "Alternative" Rock. By Frank Black (formerly Black Francis of the Pixies). Songs influenced by the writings of Ray Bradbury.
- This Time of Kites (1996) by John Alexander. A choral version of Ray Bradbury's poem. This work debuted on April 14, 1996 at the Orange County Performing Arts Center where it was performed by the Pacific Chorale and conducted by the composer. Ray Bradbury was present for the performance and introduced the work.
Notes:
- There is a Japanese CD series of music from Disney films -- on one disc, the opening suite of Something Wicked This Way Comes is featured. Mr. Dark is pictured on the cover.
- The Soundtrack to the film Fahrenheit 451 came out in the early 1990's. I have no further information.
- The soundtrack of The Illustrated Man has also been released, possibly only as an import.
- Ray Bradbury has released two LP records privately, in small numbers. These are:
- Icarus Montgolfier Wright/An American Journey (soundtracks to the two Ray Bradbury films)
- Christus Apollo (His contata, as performed at Royce Hall, UCLA)
- Danny Elfman's album Music for a Darkened Theater includes the soundtrack to the Alfred Hitchcock Presents episode "The Jar" based on Ray Bradbury's short story.
- Several rock groups have taken their names from Ray Bradbury's writings including The Autumn People, The Strawberry Window, and The October Country. Other Groups have recorded musical versions of Ray Bradbury stories, including "Rocket Man."
